Gluten-Free, Vegan, Soy-free Whoopie Pies

The Piping Gourmets have done it. This is a GMO Free, Major allergen free, low salicylate Whoopie Pie!

On spring break we were shopping in the Whole Foods in Sarasota when I came upon frozen gluten-Free, dairy-Free GMO free, vegan, soy-free kosher pareve whoopie pies. So of course we had to try them. We actually had to try two boxes. I could tell that they would need lots of testing.

Sooo, they are awesome. These two women, who call themselves The Piping Gourmets, have invented a frozen dessert that can be quickly defrosted and tastes like I remember a Devil Dog tasting, only better and more real (I know they still exist, but for obvious reasons, I have not had one in years).

These frozen treats are free of all of our problem foods. They are vegan, they are soy-free and they are my son’s new favorite food. They come in sealed single serving packets, perfect for sticking in your purse and bringing to restaurants to feed to your child in lieu of whatever egg, dairy, gluten, soy and nut laden desserts they are offering. I still cannot figure out why restaurants cannot keep a pint of sorbet around for their allergic / sensitive customers, but they certainly can keep these around. They are single serving and frozen.

Now for the bad news. While these treats are widely available in Florida (The Piping Gourmets are based in Miami) they have not made it to Chicago yet. In addition their site hints at online ordering but they have not yet worked it out. Also while the product is free of all major allergens, tree nuts and eggs are present in the factory.

I hope they get it worked out soon. But if not then the next time I go to Florida I am going to buy ten boxes and just deal with the TSA wondering what kind of oddball checks a suitcase full of whoopie pies through to Chicago.

Because that would be me.
